Dead As Digital A west coast blog on new music with a focus on new and limited edition vinyl and cassette releases.
Double Denim Records So sweet- this is Double Denim’s blog, where they feature music they love, not just what they release. Awesome all ‘round.
That’s a picture of Lagartijeando, a digital cumbia artist from Buenos Aires.
How did this picture end up in the ExFM blog?
Simple:
-Courtney Boyd Myers tweeted about Tremor’s kickstarter project.
-Tremor is on ZZK (zizek) records, a Buenos Aires based label born out of the club scene there. The focus on what they call digital cumbia, which combines the traditional Cumbia sound with modern mixing and instruments.
-Tremor only had one song posted for listening so I started poking around the rest of the label’s site.
-On the label’s Lagartijeando page, I saw the link to a Soundcloud page. Awesome! 20 songs I could access via ExFM. So, as the artist suggests: "Step onto the Lagartijeando dance floor - desert covered in a storm of stars. " Listen here.
Our goal at ExFM is to help you discover great music from all over the web and all over the world- send us your paths of discovery (song@extension.fm) and we’ll post ‘em!
Play ‘til it bleeds, baby. These, the bloody fingers of Sofia Albam of Squinch Owl which sounds like, as she says, “a pack of wild animals ripping your throat out, gently.” Bad ass. Something tells me this gal likes train hopping and busking. Pick up a bunch of her newer stuff on ye olde bandcamppp. You be the judge.
Dead Oceans Record Label Tip top independent record label- Sun Airway and Tallest Man amongst other great artists. Don’t miss the listen page.
Discovery? Shudder. In an era of Spotify, where the unfettered exploration process leads to discovery, Ping alongside iTunes seems somewhat antiquated. Even if Napster 2.0, Wippit (RIP), Comes With Music, etc didn’t explode, the all-you-can-eat and subscription-style packages are the future of the business of music. Sadly, the ‘record’ business is holding this reality back.
Pop (aka the commericial music business) will choke on its longtail. Every “social” music service lives and dies on the quality of the service. Without those who are passionate about music, sharing their loves and, also, buying hundreds/thousands of tracks, t-shirts and tickets a year, you just have an person-to-person echo chamber for major label marketeers. How anti-internet and conflicted with the creative culture Apple stands for, is that?

Have to agree. After seeing the announcement and (briefly) looking at the product, I was pretty underwhelmed. I’ll stick with my current social music networks (Spotify and ExtensionFM).
We just released 1.5.6 to the Chrome extension gallery. This new release adds support for Bandcamp as well as Keyboard Shortcuts and better sync between computers.

Bandcamp is an amazing service that offers bands the ability to create their own pages where they can stream music as well as sell it directly to their fans. We are proud to say that ExtensionFM now supports these pages. When you come across a Bandcamp album page, songs will automatically be added to your library. Of course, songs always have links back to the album page where they were found. If you like the music (and we know you will!), you can easily buy it by right-clicking on a song and then choosing ‘Buy’.
Check out some of these great artists and albums on Bandcamp:

Keyboard Shortcuts
You now have the ability to control playback using keyboard shortcuts. This makes it really simple to play, pause and skip tracks without having to change tabs or click on the Ex button. These will work on the player page as well as any page you currently have open. To enable, visit your Settings page and turn on this option. Please note, that these will not work on secure https pages.

New Sync
Also in this release is a completely revamped sync engine. If you have created an account you should notice a significant improvement in how well your libraries across multiple computers stay in sync.
We’d love to hear what you think about these new features. Leave us a comment here or on our UserVoice support page.
