Moths | <3

My friend heard this one playing in the car and told me the cd was skipping, so while yes, this does have a “glitchy” feel to it, it makes it all the more enjoyable that it’s somehow operates as a very soothing track.

You may have seen the name Moths attached to a few remixes (Passion Pit‘s Little Secrets, for example) - their M.O. seems to be the type of electronic laid back lo-fi jams that accompany the long night drives in the car where no one feels the need to say anything in particular.

Check out more of their stuff at bandcamp &/or soundcloud.

NY'ERBALL   The sun shines straight down 42nd Street in New York City during the biannual occurrence named “Manhattanhenge"  The phenomenon, named by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, occurs when the setting sun aligns itself with the east-west grid of streets in Manhattan, allowing the sun to shine down all streets at the same time. I have a bad habit of not being able to say no. Especially to my family. So, I got wrangled into designing a logo for my nephew’s baseball league. I don’t design much (if at all) anymore, but I’m always reminded of how much I enjoy it when I do. And at the risk of sounding immodest I’m a pretty darn good designer, too.

INTERVIEW: James Nee of We Are Trees

Last year We Are Trees released Boyfriend a beautifully arranged four track EP that left us yearning for more. This past March they released Girlfriend an equally beautiful counterpart to Boyfriend

Below we talk to James Nee, the creative force behind We Are Trees. We cover everything from agressive tattoo suggestions to who he thinks we should be listening to and interviewing next. If you have a chance head on over to Yours Truly to check out an amazing video of “Sunset Sunrise” off the last album and listen below to the newest album.

Bandcamp/Twitter

1. How would you describe your sound and what are your influences?

Well at the end of the day, I’m really just trying to make pop music.  My influences are pretty much all over the place.  I just like everything!

2. What first inspired you to get up on stage and perform?

Probably girls.

3. When people listen to my music I want them to feel ___________ .

…like the opening credits for “Friends”.

3. Who is the topless woman on the Girlfriend album cover?

She’s my dear friend Liz.  She’s also on the cover with me on the first EP too.

4. When you’re not playing music what do you like to do?

My life is pretty boring if I’m not playing music.  I recently found a link to all the “Friends” episodes online.  I’m currently on season 3 episode 8.  I plan to finish all 10 seasons before I leave for this summer tour I’m going on.

 5. Who should we be listening to?

I haven’t really been listening to anything new, BUT the new Fleet Foxes is really really really amazing!  I’ve also rediscovered my love for Wu-Massacre.

 6. Who should we interview next?

Well it seems like everyone is trying to interview Odd Future these days.  You should give it a try.

 7. Any tips or advice for up and coming musicians?

 "Never Say Never"

8. Anything else you would like to add?

So I’ve been asking my friends if I should get a portrait of Ghostface Killah tattooed on my arm, and they’ve been very unsupportive  of it.  I know it’ll probably make me look silly or funny, but he means a lot to me.  And I think it’ll be pretty cool.

9. Where can we see you play?

We’re going to be doing a short Northeastern/Midwest run from June 14th-July 8th. I’ll probably post dates on Bandcamp soon.

Upcoming NYC Show: Pianos on June 21st
