Hi!

I’m Jonathan Marmor, the newest software developer at exfm. I’m extremely excited to join such an incredibly talented team, and to focus on the two subjects I love most: music and technology. Exploring ways to make deeper experiences of music available to more people is a passion for me, and the folks at exfm are committed to just that. exfm fills a serious gap in the experience of interacting with audio online – sorting through the flood of audio you encounter on the web everyday, and getting back to your favorites later.

I’m also an active musician. From a young age I studied tabla, a classical percussion instrument from North India, with Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. I got into technology through music – I use the Python programming language to automate music composition. You can check out some of my strange music here: http://ex.fm/s/y6ddl! Prior to joining exfm, I was a technical project manager at Thirteen/WNET, the NYC PBS TV station, where I managed implementation of digital video asset management systems.

Follow me at http://ex.fm/jm to hear my favorite Senegalese Mbalax, microtonal experimental music, Javanese Gamelan, and my friends’ awesome experimental pop music. Come find me at future Music Hackdays!

Today the fine folks at ex.fm released an iPhone app! It’s pretty amazing that they were just founded in March of 2010 and already have nearly 50,000 users. This past March they sponsored #MEGABLAAG at SXSW and I was lucky enough to meet @majman @dankantor @jpage. Not only do they know what they are doing but they are super nice. Kind enough to make me a Tastemaker. So follow me at ex.fm/EpicConcoction because I’m about to be laid up on the beach all weekend noting songs and sharing them on the twitters and Facebook.  Most of the songs will probably be from Givers, Pepper Rabbit or 1,2,3 because they are playing in Little Rock on Tuesday, #StickyzJune28 and I couldn’t possibly be more excited!

Other Lives

Other Lives - For 12 (Official Video) from tbdrecords on Vimeo.

I started listening to Other Lives about a month ago when a friend told me her favorite band was opening for The Rosebuds in Little Rock on June 19th at Stickyz.  As I looked them up online I discovered that she was not the only one loving them. There have been loads of posts praising their latest album Tamer Animals. Above is the official video of “For 12”, one of my favorite songs on this album. Another favorite of mine is Dark Horse so give it a listen and catch them on tour. Hope to see you Sunday!

Exfm for iPhone Has Arrived!

I don’t covet material things very often, generally experiences over all else. But today with the release of the Ex.fm iPhone app I now covet iPhone users. Right now I can’t comment on how intuitive or fast it is, but if it’s anything like the Chrome extension then I can imagine it’s a great experience.

Ex.fm is one of my favorite music apps, it first started as just a slick Chrome extension that essentially turns the internet into your personal music library and share with your friends what you’re listening too [my profile if you wanna be friends]. Which for me is awesome because I don’t blog everything I listen too. This doesn’t mean it’s not worthy of being blogged about it, I just don’t want to over saturate everyone. To have this power to listen to blogs on the go is something that I’ve wanted for quite a while.

So now I’ve got to either wait impatiently for the Android version or buy an iPad. But if you’re hip and have an iPhone I highly suggest you pick this app up in the iTunes store [it’s freeeeeeee].
